Dingko Singh, Asian Games gold medalist and winning former boxer passed away on Thursday after a long battle with liver cancer. The boxer was 42 and was battling the disease since 2017. Dingko Singh was bestowed with the Arjuna award in 1998 and was awarded the Padma Shri by the President in 2013. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid condolences to Dingko Singh’s family. The Asian Games gold medalist had recovered after testing positive for COVID-19 the previous year.

Saddened by his passing away”. PM Modi also paid condolences to Dingko’s family and his admirers & ended the tweet with ‘Om Shanti’.

The sports minister Kiren Rijiju also tweeted ” I was deeply saddened by the demise of Shri Dingko Singh. As he was one of the finest boxers that India had produced, Dingko’s gold medal at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games sparked the boxing chain reaction in India. I extend my sincere condolences to the bereaved family. RIP Dingko.”
