Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi to commemorate his death anniversary, by saying that Gandhi’s ideas still motivate millions of people.
Modi tweeted, “Tributes to the great Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His ideals continue to motivate millions. On Matyrs’ Day, we recall the heroic sacrifices of all those great women and men who devoted themselves towards India’s freedom and the well-being of every Indian.” Out of the five days that are celebrated as Matyrs’ Day in India, Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary is the first one.

Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January, 1948 by Nathuram Godse who disagreed with Gandhi’s partition idea. He was one of the most prominent fighters of India’s freedom struggle against the British.
