PM Modi’s Japan visit: Bullet trains, Chandrayaan-5 collaboration, and $68 billion investment highlights

Three significant results from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Japan—in the areas of transportation, space exploration, and economic relations—highlight the strategic alliance between Tokyo and New Delhi.

The prime minister shared a post on X, “This visit to Japan will be remembered for the productive outcomes which will benefit the people of our nations. I thank PM Ishiba, the Japanese people and the government for their warmth.”

Following summit discussions between Prime Minister Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, the new steps to further the India-Japan special strategic and global cooperation were announced. The following are the main conclusions from PM Modi’s trip to Japan:

Chandrayaan & ISRO-JAXA at 5 PM

Modi declared that the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) would collaborate on the next Chandrayaan-5 mission. The program enhances collaboration in scientific research, space technology, and lunar exploration

A Journey Through the Shinkansen

PM Modi and his colleague Ishiba boarded a Shinkansen bullet train in Sendai on Friday. He engaged with Indian train drivers who were training in Japan for the forthcoming bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, which was constructed with Japanese assistance, during the journey.

$68 billion will be invested in India by Japan

Over the next ten years, Tokyo has committed 10 trillion yen, or around $68 billion, in private investments for India. According to a joint statement released during the bilateral summit between Modi and Ishiba, these investments include industries ranging from digital technology and sustainable energy to semiconductors and rare earths. India-Japan relations are strengthened on three important fronts by PM Modi’s visit to Japan: economic growth, space exploration, and high-speed transportation. He asserts that both parties have established a solid basis for a “new and golden chapter” in their relationship and that the alliance is essential to world peace and security.
