PM Narendra Modi responds to Jagdeep Dhankhar’s surprise resignation, wishes him good health

In response to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s abrupt resignation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his well wishes and acknowledged Dhankhar’s many years of national service on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a post on X, “Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has got many opportunities to serve our country in various capacities, including as the Vice President of India. Wishing him good health.”

Dhankhar, 74, submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, due to medical reasons. In his letter, he said, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”

Dhankhar’s five-year term, which started in August 2022 and was initially scheduled to conclude in August 2027, came to an unexpected end with his resignation. He was the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha in addition to being the Vice President.

Although the resignation letter contained no additional information regarding his health, his departure on the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament has sparked a wave of conjecture in political and media circles.
