Here are the highlights:
The vaccination drive will be centralized
- New guidelines will be put in place and will apply from Monday, 21 June which is also Yoga day.
- Everybody above 18 years will receive free vaccinations according to the new guidelines.
- The central government will bear 75% cost and provide free vaccines to states.
- 25% vaccine supply to be reserved for private vaccination.
- Only Rs. 150/- service tax can be applied by private hospitals; will be supervised by the states.
Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana extended till November
- Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana which was earlier extended till June, is now further extended till Diwali 2021.
- The scheme will continue to provide free ration to more than 80 crore people till Diwali.
Vaccination coverage in India is now 90 percent due to Mission Indradhanush
- In the last year, India launched two made-in-India vaccines.
- More than 23 crore vaccine doses have been administered.
Seven companies in the country are producing different vaccines, three vaccine trials in advanced stage
- Research for a nasal vaccine underway which can further boost vaccination drive.
While acknowledging the administration’s efforts in handling the epidemic, the Prime Minister emphasised that adhering to COVID-19 guidelines is the only way to win against this pandemic. PM Modi concluded his speech by stating that India will be victorious in the war against COVID-19.
