Police are on the hunt for Sushil Kumar and his associates in connection with the death of wrestler Sagar Dhankad

Police are on the hunt for Sushil Kumar and his associates in connection with the death of wrestler Sagar Dhankad. Since the May 4 incident, the party has been on the move.

Days after Sagar Rana, a 23-year-old former junior national champion, was beaten to death during a brawl in the Chhatrasal Stadium parking lot, the victims of the clash reported their statements before Delhi Police and alleged that two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar was involved in the attack.

Dr. Guriqbal Singh Sidhu, Additional DCP (North-West district), said, “We have registered statements of all the victims, and they have all made allegations against Sushil Kumar.” We have filed an FIR for murder, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy and are conducting raids to apprehend Sushil Kumar.”

The victims have also said that Kumar and his friends kidnapped Sagar from his Model Townhome to punish him for disparaging him in front of other wrestlers, according to police.

The Delhi Police is conducting raids on the outskirts of Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Haryana in search to nab Kumar, who is on the run.

On Tuesday, Sagar Rana, a 97-kg Greco-Roman competitor, was beaten to death in a battle between two gangs. Rana is a former junior national champion who is now a member of the senior national team camp.

“We discovered during our investigation that a quarrel had allegedly occurred between Sushil Kumar, Ajay, Prince Dalal, Sonu, Sagar, Amit, and others in the stadium parking area,” Sidhu said.

Police reported the statements of all the victims, during which they said that Sagar and some of his associates, including the injured Sonu Mahal, a close associate of gangster Kala Jathedi, were staying in a house connected to Sushil near the stadium. “They had recently been ordered to vacate and were forcibly ejected from the house. Sushil later came to know that Sagar had started bad mouthing him in the Chhatrasal Stadium in front of other wrestlers and also threatened him of dire consequences,” said a senior police officer.

During the inquiry, police discovered a filmed video of the incident from the cell phone of accused Prince Dalal, in which the faces of all the attackers can be identified. “Dalal was arrested from the spot and we seized his cellphone, two double-barrel guns along with seven live cartridges of 12 bore from his possession. After investigation, we have found that the guns were registered in the name of one resident of Ashoda village in Haryana’s Jhajjar,” a source from the police said so.
