Police arrested a man for extortion in New Delhi

On Saturday, a 33-year-old man was arrested for trying to extort money from a man in New Delhi. The accused had hatched a plan with the victim’s ex-girlfriend to extort money when Tarun, the accused, was depressed after suffering monetary losses during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The police said that Tarun was a resident of Mangolpuri, and had made calls to the victim asking for Rs.5 lakh, if the victim would fail to pay him so then he would falsely implicate him in a rape case.

Ankit, the victim who had filed the complaint, told the police that he was in a relationship with the woman for over two years, and this woman along with Tarun demanded for Rs.5 lakh from him.

Pranav Tayal; the Deputy Commissioner of Police, said that the police received a tip-off in regard of the presence of the accused near the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, which led the police to lay traps near the hospital to arrest him.

The DCP on an interrogation with the accused, revealed that Tarun was depressed as he suffered through heavy monetary losses in his business due to the lockdown imposed from COVID-19. The police also added that Tarun had known the woman, and to help him and make easy money, both of them together hatched a plan to extort money from the victim. The police is still making efforts to catch the woman who was also a part of the extortion plan along with Tarun.
