Praveen Pardeshi joins Centre’s NCBC just a few hours after appointment by Maharashtra govt

Former Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi resigned from his post thereby joining the Union government’s National Capacity Building Commission as a member just a few hours after being appointed by the Maharashtra government as the additional chief secretary for the Marathi language.

To monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Centre’s plan and create shared resources, Praveen shall supervise all the government offices and training institutes along with coordinating with them in his new role.

Along with making necessary recommendations in approving the annual capacity building plans, the commission shall also assist the Prime Minister’s Public Human Resources Council. Policy changes that are required in the area of human resource management along with capacity building for civil servants shall also be suggested by it.

After differences with the then chief secretary Ajoy Mehta, Praveen was abruptly transferred in mid-2020. Praveen is an IAS officer of the 1985 batch and had become the municipal commissioner of Mumbai in the year 2019. Following the scenario in 2020, he had joined the United Nations for a few months as a consultant.

Along with re-joining in February this year, he was also in the reckoning for the post of chief secretary’s which went to his batchmate SJ Kunte, following which he once again went back to UN.

Although he had re-joined the services of the Maharashtra government on Wednesday, he was relieved immediately for joining the Central government posting.
