Prime Minister Narendra Modi on ‘world environment day’ 2021

PM Modi addresses virtually ethanol as one of major priorities of 21st century.

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5th June and  is the United Nations principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. It was first held in 1974 it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issue such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming. The program provides a theme and forum each year for businesses, governments, non government organizations, communities and celebrities to advocate environmental causes.

In the world of digitalization  we have forgotten that our mother nature is vulnerable to technologies that are harming the environment. It has become a necessity  to save and rebuild the relationship with nature as the environment is build up of every living and non living beings. On June 5, 2021 India’s prime minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in an event organized virtually by the ministry of petroleum & natural gas and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and climate change. UN Ministers  such as Narendra Singh Tomar, Piyush Goyal, Nitin Gadkari, and Dharmendra Pradhan also made an appearance  to this event.

The concept  this year was on launch of UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), a global mission to urgently revive our damaged forests, farmlands, mountains, animals, seas, plants from extinction. Unlike every year this year Pakistan is the host country for World Environmental Day 2021. Each year the day is hosted by different countries. In 2020 this day was hosted by Colombia with Germany to  focus on Biodiversity. In 2018 India was the  host to World Environment Day.

In the virtual summit  the theme of the event was “Promotion of biofuels for better environment”. During the event PM Modi released the Report of the Expert Committee on Roadmap for Ethanol Blending in India 2020-2025. PM Modi stated that India’s renewable energy capacity has increased by more than 250% in past 6-7 years . India now ranks among the top most 5th country  for its installed renewable energy capacity of which the solar energy capacity of country is grown by 15 times in last 6 years.
