Priya Kapur files fresh applications in escalating Kapur estate dispute

The legal dispute surrounding the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur continues to intensify. On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court issued fresh notices in the matter after new applications were filed in the ongoing case between his mother, Rani Kapur, and his wife, Priya Kapur.

At the centre of the conflict is a family trust named after Rani Kapur. She has approached the High Court seeking to declare the trust null and void, alleging that it was fraudulently created and used to unlawfully transfer her assets. In response, Priya Kapur has moved applications seeking dismissal of the suit, strongly denying the allegations.

Justice Mini Pushkarna has now granted Rani Kapur four weeks to file her response to Priya Kapur’s plea. The court has also allowed Priya to submit a rejoinder within two weeks thereafter. Additionally, notice has been issued to Rani Kapur on a separate application filed by Priya, in which she has accused her mother-in-law of committing perjury.

During the proceedings, Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal, representing Priya Kapur, reportedly argued that the claims made in the suit were “utterly false.”

In an earlier hearing, the High Court had encouraged the family members, including others connected to the matter such as Karisma Kapoor’s children, to consider mediation. The court emphasised the importance of resolving the dispute amicably and maintaining respectful relations moving forward.
