Actor Akshaye Khanna has been at the centre of a fresh controversy after Drishyam 3 producer Kumar Mangat Pathak alleged that the actor exited the film just days before shooting began. The producer claimed that Khanna demanded to wear a wig following the success of Dhurandhar and described him as unprofessional and toxic, statements that quickly drew attention within the industry.
Now, filmmaker Priyadarshan has offered a contrasting perspective on Akshaye’s reputation. In an interview with Mid-Day, the veteran director revisited his long association with the actor and addressed the perception that Khanna is difficult to work with. Priyadarshan recalled that when he cast Akshaye in Doli Saja Ke Rakhna in 1998, many had warned him against the decision, calling the actor moody and unreliable.
However, the filmmaker said his personal experience was completely different. Priyadarshan shared that Akshaye won him over from their very first collaboration, describing him as punctual, disciplined, and respectful on set. He added that the actor was always available when required, even during early morning calls, and never created friction during their projects together.
The director further noted that criticism has never seemed to bother Akshaye, and in all the six films they worked on, there was never a bitter moment. Following Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, the duo went on to collaborate on successful films such as Hulchul, Hungama, and Aakrosh, cementing a professional relationship built on trust and consistency.
