Priyadarshan confirms 100th film will be with Mohanlal; calls it a record moment

Filmmaker Priyadarshan has revealed that his milestone 100th film will star Mohanlal, a decision rooted in their long-standing friendship and career-defining bond.

Celebrated filmmaker Priyadarshan, who has directed over 90 films across languages, has already made up his mind about who will headline his 100th project. In a recent interview, the director confirmed that Mohanlal would be the star of his centenary film, even though he has “no plan” for the project yet.

Priyadarshan’s connection with Mohanlal goes back to his very first film, the 1984 screwball comedy Poochakkoru Mookkuthi. Over the years, the duo delivered several memorable hits, including their latest outing Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea in 2021. Reflecting on their journey, Priyadarshan said, “What I am today is all because of him. If he had not become a superstar, I would not have too. He really encouraged me in making films and supported my career.”

He further emphasized that while Mohanlal remains a superstar with countless opportunities, their friendship and mutual support have created a unique partnership. “Maybe we grew up as childhood friends, but he’s still a star. We mutually did well for each other. For my 100th film, I cannot think of anybody else. He said one thing: if it ever happens, it will be a record. The first film was with him, the 100th will be too.”

Currently, Priyadarshan is busy with his Hindi films Bhoot Bangla and Haiwaan, featuring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. Meanwhile, Mohanlal is working on Patriot alongside Mammootty and Fahadh Faasil, in addition to projects like Drishyam 3, Ram, and Vrusshabha.
