As the Hindi film industry continues to mourn the loss of legendary actor Dharmendra, who passed away at 89 on November 24, heartfelt tributes keep pouring in. Among them, actor Priyanka Chopra shared an emotional note, remembering how the veteran star and the Deol family played a significant role in making her feel at home when she was just starting out.
Dharmendra, who had recently been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, was recuperating at home before his demise. His death has been described by many as “the end of an era,” and Priyanka’s message added a deeply personal perspective to the collective grief.
Sharing an old photo with Dharmendra from an award event, Priyanka recalled that her first film signing amount in 2001 came from Vijayta Films, the banner run by the Deol family. One of her earliest Hindi films was also under their production, giving her the first steps into an unfamiliar industry. “They made me feel welcome at a time when no one knew me,” she wrote, expressing gratitude for the warmth she received as a newcomer in Mumbai.
The actor reflected on how she later went on to work with Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, strengthening her connection with the family. Calling Dharmendra’s presence “magnetic,” she said he left behind not just iconic films but unforgettable feelings. “His legacy is permanent,” she noted, adding that his journey from a small town to becoming a true Hindi film hero continues to inspire countless artists today.
