PSG, Chelsea in the race to sign Sergio Ramos on a free transfer

The two European giants once again clash heads; this time in their endeavours to sign Sergio Ramos.

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are in a race to sign Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos on a free transfer. The veteran defender is a free agent after the expiration of his current deal with Real Madrid.

The Real Madrid captain and club legend has already bid his goodbyes to the La Liga giants and their fans as he leaves the club after 16 years of service. The legendary defender had an emotional press conference as he thanked the club for the confidence they expressed in him throughout his time at Madrid. According to reports from Spain, talks between Sergio Ramos and the club broke down throughout the contract extension offered to the player.

The 35-year old defender has now been linked with a move to Paris or London with both Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea preparing to engage in a race to sign the Spaniard. PSG’s football director Leonardo is aiming to build a Champions League title-challenging team and wants to sign the centre back to add much-needed leadership and experience to the team. Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel also holds Ramos in high esteem and wants to bring the defender to the Premier League.

PSG and Chelsea have already engaged in a bidding war for Inter Milan’s right wing-back Achraf Hakimi as Tuchel and his former boss Leonardo clash heads once again in the Ramos saga.

Ramos has scored 102 goals in 671 of his games and won four Champions League titles, five La Liga titles and 22 other major trophies with Real Madrid.
