Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann slams Uniform Civil Code after AAP backed it

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann slammed BJP-led Centre on Uniform Civil Code, as he accused the party of raising religious tensions for its electoral gain. This comes a week after AAP MP Sandeep Pathak said the party backed UCC “in principle.”

The CM questioned the necessity to implement UCC as the nation observes people of different religions and faith, who have different cultures and traditions. He did not understand the need to tamper with it.

A week earlier, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak had shown “in principle” support to implementation of Uniform Civil Code.

The debate revolving the UCC began after it was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during one of his latest speech in Bhopal.
