The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Friday passed a resolution on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, Free Press Journal reported. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema moved it, and it was passed unanimously.
The resolution seeks constitutional safeguards for eligible voters’ rights, transparency, impartial scrutiny of discrepancies in the rolls and accountability. Copies will be sent to the President, the Prime Minister and the Chief Election Commissioner. Cheema alleged large-scale deletions of voters and said Punjab has asked the President to begin criminal proceedings against the Chief Election Commissioner, which are his allegations.
