QS World University Rankings 2022: Eight Indian universities named in the list

Eight Indian universities have been named in the QS World University Ranking 2022. Out of the eight Indian universities, seven are the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US has continued to remain at the top spot. The US, with the highest representation, claims 177 universities in the list. In Asia, the best university is National University of Singapore (NUS) securing the 11th rank, globally.

According to the ranking, the top university in India is IIT-Bombay, obtaining the 177th rank but has fallen five spots from the previous QS rankings.

British ranking agency QS said, “Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-Delhi) has become India’s second-best university, having risen from 193rd to 185th over the past twelve months. It has done so by overtaking Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc Bangalore).” IISc has attained the 186th position.

IIT-Madras rose to 255th rank followed by IIT-Kanpur at 277th, bettering from its 350th position in the last edition. IIT-Guwahati has ranked at the 395th position, debuting among the top 400 this time.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has appeared in the QS World University Rankings for the first time in the 560-570 band.

The survey added, “According to the CPF Indicator, when universities are adjusted for faculty size, IISc Bangalore is the world’s top research university, achieving a perfect score of 100/100 for this metric. IIT-Guwahati (41st for CPF) is also a top-50 research institution”.

35 Indian institutions have been featured in the published table. Seven improved their positions, seven experienced a decline, fourteen retained their spots from last time and seven are debutants.
