Rajasthan High Court orders govt to raise women driver share to 15% on ride-hailing platforms in 6 months

The state government has been ordered by the Rajasthan High Court to push ride-hailing applications to have at least 15% female drivers within six months. According to the PTI news agency, Justice Ravi Chirania issued the court decision, which also called for increasing this goal to 25% over the following two to three years.

According to the directive, female users of these ride-hailing services must likewise be able to select a female driver as their top choice. The guidelines were included in a court ruling that demanded that Rajasthan’s cyber-policing network undergo immediate structural changes.

The state government should establish a Rajasthan Cyber Crime Control Center, according to Justice Chirania, who described cybercrime as a “unstoppable and rapidly escalating threat.” Two Gujarati citizens who were accused of posing as law enforcement officers and defrauding an elderly couple of ₹2.02 crore were having their bail requests heard by the court. Bail was refused for both guys.

Despite the establishment of the position of Director General, Cyber Crimes in 2024, the court stated that the state lacks a “sufficient system” to investigate digital offenses, according to the PTI report. Additionally, the HC directed telecom authorities to thoroughly verify people before granting them a fourth SIM card. Additionally, it mandated that the state government monitor inactive bank accounts and require physical KYC verification.

In addition to the state government, the HC instructed banks and other financial institutions to halt online banking for accounts that were deemed suspicious or for those that had less than ₹50,000 in yearly transactions during the previous three years. The court ordered that all gig workers in the state be placed under a formal registration system run by the Director General of Cyber Crimes.
