Actor Rajat Bedi recently revisited a memorable incident from the sets of the 2001 comedy film Jodi No. 1, directed by David Dhawan. Speaking with Siddharth Kannan, he revealed how co-star Govinda’s unpredictable schedule once caused a major delay during filming. Despite describing Govinda as a “wonderful human being,” Rajat admitted that the actor’s hectic work life created “a very big problem” on set.
Rajat recalled that on the day of the shoot, Sanjay Dutt, David Dhawan, and he had reached the set by 6 am for a 7 am call time. However, hours passed without Govinda’s arrival. “We kept waiting for him, and later someone was sent to his house to check, but he wasn’t even there,” Rajat shared. “Turns out, he was flying in from Hyderabad and only came to the set at 3 pm.”
By the time Govinda arrived, tensions had flared. Rajat said that Sanjay was freaking out and abusing because of the delay. When the assistant handed Sanjay the scene, he refused to do it, asking that the dialogues be given to Govinda instead. Despite the chaos, once Govinda began shooting, he completed the entire scene in just two hours.
The film, starring Govinda, Sanjay Dutt, Anupam Kher, Twinkle Khanna, and Monica Bedi, told the story of two witty crooks, Jai and Veeru, whose friendship and comic timing made Jodi No. 1 a hit of its time.
