Superstar Rajinikanth turned emotional at the grand audio launch event of Coolie in Chennai, where he took a heartfelt detour from the glitz and glamour to share a deeply personal story. As fans celebrated the film’s trailer, Rajinikanth recalled his days as a daily wage worker and a moment that left a lasting scar.
“I got yelled at many times when I was a coolie,” he said to a silent, attentive crowd. “One day, a man asked me to carry luggage into his tempo and gave me 2 rupees for it. His voice sounded familiar to me, and I soon realised he was my college mate whom I used to mock.” He added, “At that moment, he ridiculed me and said, ‘How arrogant you were in those days,’ mocking my job. That was the first time I broke down crying in my life.”
The veteran actor also praised director Lokesh Kanagaraj, calling him the “real hero” of Coolie. “One of the most successful commercial directors has teamed up with me. Bringing together an amazing star cast, he has created a storm,” he said.
Coolie, Rajinikanth’s 171st film, features a powerhouse cast including Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, and Nagarjuna. Produced by Sun Pictures and helmed by Kanagaraj, the action thriller also includes a special appearance by Aamir Khan, whose trailer look has created a buzz. The film’s plot centers on an ageing gold smuggler who tries to revive his mafia empire with stolen tech.
