The Dussehra box office saw a mini clash between two Bollywood films—Vasan Bala’s action-packed Jigra and the comedy Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri. Despite Jigra having more star power, the quirky nature of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video helped it lead the box office battle on its opening day.
The comedy film, which revolves around a newlywed couple in the 1990s dealing with the disappearance of their wedding night sex tape, collected ₹5 crore net in India on day one. This figure edged past Jigra, which earned ₹4.25 crore. However, insiders note that Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video had a wider release and more screens, making its ‘victory’ marginal.
Occupancy for the comedy was recorded at 17% across India, with a rise to 32% during night shows, suggesting potential for stronger weekend performance, especially with Dussehra boosting audience turnout.
The film, directed by Raaj Shaandilya, boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Vijay Raaz, Archana Puran Singh, and Mallika Sherawat, who makes her acting comeback. Although the film opened to mixed reviews, its light-hearted premise and slapstick humor seem to resonate with viewers, setting the stage for a competitive weekend ahead at the box office.
