Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao has been confirmed to play former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic. The much-anticipated film has been the subject of speculation for a while, with multiple actors rumored to be in contention for the role. However, Ganguly himself has now put an end to the rumors by confirming Rao as the lead.
While speaking to the media in Bardhaman, West Bengal, on Thursday, Ganguly, who also served as the BCCI president, shared details about the project. He mentioned that while Rajkummar Rao is set to portray him on screen, scheduling conflicts might delay the film’s release. “From what I’ve heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the role… but there are issues with dates, so it will take more than a year to hit the screens,” Ganguly stated, as reported by ANI.
This revelation comes after speculation about actors like Ayushmann Khurrana and Ranbir Kapoor being considered for the role. Rajkummar Rao, known for his versatility, has previously starred in biographical dramas, most notably as Srikanth Bolla, a visually impaired industrialist, in Srikanth. His portrayal in the film earned critical acclaim.
Apart from this, Rao was recently seen playing a cricketer in Mr & Mrs Mahi, and he is set to appear in Bhool Chuk Maaf alongside Wamiqa Gabbi. The teaser of the film, a family comedy-drama, was recently released, hinting at an engaging storyline.
