Actor-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, known for directing blockbuster movies like Koi Mil Gaya and the Krrish franchise, recently shared a heartfelt story about his struggle for success in the film industry. After a series of disappointments as an actor and producer, Rakesh decided to try his luck as a director. His self-written film Khudgarz (1987) was a make-or-break moment in his career.
In an interview with ANI, Rakesh revealed that he vowed to shave his head if Khudgarz turned out to be a success. “It was my last chance. As an actor and producer, I hadn’t done well. If the film failed, I didn’t know what I would do next,” he admitted.
Fortunately, Khudgarz became a hit, and Rakesh’s promise stood firm. However, keeping that vow wasn’t easy. He recalled sleepless nights before the shoot of Khoon Bhari Maang, starring Rekha, as he debated whether to fulfill his pledge. “I called the barber at 6 a.m. Even as he sat there, I was unsure. But eventually, I did it,” he said.
The bold step marked a turning point in his career. Rakesh went on to direct Bollywood hits like Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, and the Krrish series, establishing himself as one of the most successful directors in the industry.
Reflecting on his journey, Rakesh Roshan’s story is a testament to resilience and determination, proving that sometimes, a leap of faith can lead to extraordinary success.
