Telugu star Ram Charan joined several industry colleagues on Thursday in condemning Telangana Minister Konda Surekha for her controversial remarks linking BRS leader KT Rama Rao with the divorce of actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Ram Charan, who gained international fame for his role in the Oscar-winning film RRR, expressed his disapproval in a statement shared on X. He called the comments “irresponsible and baseless,” criticizing the minister for making inappropriate remarks about public figures. “This kind of slander aims to destroy the fundamentals of our society,” Charan wrote, emphasizing that the private lives of public figures deserve respect.
Konda Surekha, during a public event on Wednesday, alleged that KT Rama Rao was responsible for the 2021 divorce of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The remarks triggered widespread outrage, leading both actors to issue separate statements dismissing the claims as “absolutely ridiculous.” They urged the minister to respect personal privacy.
Veteran actor Akkineni Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya’s father, has since filed a defamation case against the minister, claiming that her remarks have tarnished his family’s reputation. Other Telugu cinema stars, including Chiranjeevi, Junior NTR, Mahesh Babu, and Vijay Devarakonda, also condemned the minister’s statements.
After facing backlash, Konda Surekha withdrew her remarks on Thursday, stating that her comments were made in an emotional outburst and were not intended to hurt anyone.
