Ranbir Kapoor admits he is a ‘product of nepotism’ but had to work hard too

With a nearly two-decade career that made him a prominent star in the industry, Ranbir Kapoor is one of Bollywood’s most recognizable faces. The actor spoke Thursday at the Celebrate Cinema 2025 festival at filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s film institute, Whistling Woods, during a session titled Tribute to Legendary Filmmakers Raj Kapoor and Guru Dutt.

He revealed how he had to put in a lot of effort to become a successful actor and acknowledged that he is a result of nepotism. During the speech, Ranbir stated, “I’m a product of nepotism and I got it very easy in my life, but I always had to work hard because I realized that I come from a family like this and that I won’t succeed in the film industry if I don’t have an individualistic approach and if I don’t make a name for myself.”

You guys take great pride in my family’s accomplishments, but there are also many setbacks, and just as much as you can learn from the achievements, you can also learn from the setbacks. “How do I feel about being born into this family? For me, it was just like any other family; I didn’t know any different,” he continued.

Arguments used to be common, but they weren’t domestic in nature. They would argue about a scenario or a song’s appropriate lyrics. Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor are the parents of Ranbir. He is the late Raj Kapoor’s grandson. Regarding his career, Ranbir most recently starred in Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. His upcoming film is Love and War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt. In addition, he will play Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s epic rendition of the Ramayana.
