Ranjita Rane, a former Mumbai player, has died after a battle with cancer

Ranjita Rane, a former Mumbai player and scorer, died here on Wednesday after a battle with cancer. She was in her forties. “We are deeply grieved to announce the death of ex-Mumbai player and scorer Ranjita Rane,” a top Mumbai Cricket Association official stated.

Rane had been hospitalized to a metropolitan hospital for the last two weeks, according to a well-known MCA scorer who knew her. From 1995 to 2003, Rane, an all-rounder who bowled medium speed, appeared in 44 first-class matches for Mumbai.

On Tuesday, another player, Prabhubhai Parmar, who had represented Saurashtra in domestic cricket, died as a result of COVID-19. “Everyone at SCA is very grieved by the tragic death of Prabhubhai Parmar, a former Saurashtra cricketer. He left for heavenly abode today after a long struggle with COVID-19,” the SCA stated in a public release late Tuesday night.

In 1968-69, the 76-year-old played four Ranji Trophy matches for Saurashtra. His wife had also succumbed to COVID-19 earlier that day. Former BCCI and SCA secretary Niranjan Shah offered his heartfelt condolences on the death of Prabhubhai. He recalls meeting Prabhubhai in December 2017 and spending great time with him at his Bhavnagar residence.
