Rashid Khan refuses to captain the Afghanistan’s national team

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan was offered the captaincy of the T20 team by the board ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup but he has no interest in leading.

Rashid Khan refuses to lead the national T20 team “I think it’s better for the team as a player than as a captain,” said Rashid Khan. I would rather stay with the team as a player than lead the team. “I will do my best to help the captain and the team as the vice-captain,” he added.
After the 2019 World Cup, the Afghanistan Cricket Board gave Rashid Khan all three types of leadership responsibilities. But he was soon replaced by Asghar Afghan as captain.

After the series defeat against Zimbabwe, the leadership of the Afghanistan team has once again seen a change of shoulders. The Afghanistan Cricket Board met on Monday. Hashmatullah Shahidi was given the leadership of the Test and ODI team. It was announced that Rashid Khan will lead the T20 team. However, Rashid Khan has turned down the offer.

Rashid presented his role in an interview with ESPNcricinfo. “Not mentally ready to lead the team. It seems that personal performance will be affected while leading. Therefore, I will be the vice-captain of the team and will do a useful job for the team. Performing well as a player seems like a good decision for the team and me”. He said he was not ready for leadership, saying he would focus more on what he could do best.
