Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund struggled to get things going for the Red Devils early in the Premier League season this year, and it certainly took him some time.
However, it appears that since the new year has begun, his fortunes have also changed, as the Danish striker has found form just when United needed it most.
In just 37 seconds, Hojlund neatly slotted the ball into the back of the net, marking the fastest league goal of United’s season so far. In the seventh minute, he added to his score with a casual flick of the chest off Alejandro Garnacho’s missed chance in front of goal.
The 21-year-old Dane made Premier League history as the youngest player to score in six straight games with his recent exploits.
Despite Luton’s determined response, with Carlton Morris’ header closing the gap in the 14th minute, the match stayed unexpectedly goalless despite the opportunities both teams created in an open game.
Following their close win against Luton last night, Hojlund said to the media, “I need to say thanks to my teammates and the coach because they have showed me great confidence and kept believing in me” He added, “I knew as well that I could score goals but of course it was annoying I didn’t score in the Premier League.”
With their fourth straight league win, sixth-place United closed the gap on fourth-place Aston Villa to five points in the fight to qualify for the Champions League next season.
