Raveena Tandon says stray dog crisis is due to failed sterilisation drives

Reacting to the Supreme Court verdict on relocating stray dogs in Delhi NCR, Raveena Tandon said the real issue lies in failed vaccination and sterilisation efforts by local bodies.

Actor Raveena Tandon has weighed in on the Supreme Court’s recent verdict directing that all stray dogs in Delhi and the National Capital Region be rounded up and housed in dedicated shelters within eight weeks. Known for her love for animals, the actor shared her perspective in an exclusive conversation with HT City, saying that the blame should not fall on the animals themselves.

“I feel where the population of indies have increased, it is honestly not these poor dogs to be blamed. It means the vaccination and sterilisation drives aren’t done by local bodies,” she said. Raveena stressed that proper infrastructure and allocation of funds could have prevented the current situation.

“If that was a success, or the money and infrastructure was set properly, I don’t think we would have reached this point. Local bodies are responsible for the strays in their communities and sterilisation is the need of the hour,” she added.

The Supreme Court’s directive also makes it clear that no captured animal will be released back onto the streets once moved to shelters. The decision has sparked a lively debate on social media, with opinions divided over animal rights and public safety concerns.

On the work front, Raveena was last seen in the wedding drama Ghudchadi and will next appear in Welcome To The Jungle, which is currently under production.
