Ravi Kumar Gowda Clarifies Controversial Statement on Rashmika Mandanna Amid Backlash; Kodava Community Demands Security

Karnataka Congress MLA Ravi Kumar Gowda Ganiga has come under fire for his controversial remarks on actor Rashmika Mandanna. Gowda had earlier stated that the actor “must be taught a lesson” for not attending a state event, which led to widespread criticism and concerns from the Kodava community.

Clarifying his statement, Gowda told ANI, “When I said I would teach her a lesson, I meant life lessons, not to attack her. I simply reminded her not to forget the state that nurtured her.” He defended his position, emphasizing the importance of respecting Karnataka’s culture and language.

The controversy began after Rashmika allegedly declined an invitation to attend the International Film Festival in Karnataka. Expressing his frustration, Gowda claimed that despite starting her career with the Kannada film Kirik Party, she no longer acknowledges the state, reportedly saying, “I don’t know where Karnataka is, and I don’t have time.”

The Kodava National Council (KNC), led by President NU Nachappa, condemned Gowda’s remarks and called for Rashmika’s safety. In a formal letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Karnataka’s State Home Minister G Parameshwar, the KNC expressed concerns over potential harassment and urged immediate protection for the actor.

The KNC emphasized that Rashmika, an actor from the indigenous Kodava tribe, has the right to make her own choices. “She is not just a great actress but an individual with the right to make her own decisions,” the statement read.
