Ravichandran Ashwin opens up about leaving IPL 2021 halfway and COVID-19 effecting his family

Indian senior Spinner and Delhi’s main front bowling attack Ravinder Ashwin precisely mentioned how he was sleep-deprived during the ongoing VIVO IPL 2021, proving it to be a reason behind Ashwin leaving the tournament halfway.

“I couldn’t sleep for almost eight-nine days. Since I couldn’t sleep, it was really stressful for me. I was playing matches without getting any sleep. And since I found it really taxing, I had to quit IPL and go home midway. In fact, when I left around that time, I had thoughts on whether I will be able to play cricket thereafter. But still, I did what was required at that point in time. Anyway, after that, I thought there won’t be any cricket for some time.” said Ashwin.

Ashwin also stated that his family suffered a lot during the COVID pandemic which Ashwin’s spouse described as a “nightmare of a week”. He also stated that his family remembers were recovering and that’s when he planned on coming back to the tournament but that’s when the league was called off.

The Indian spinner is currently in Mumbai with the team under a fourteen-day quarantine in which the first seven days were kept as the “hard quarantine” in which the players were not permitted to leave the hotel rooms. After a seven day hard quarantine and three consecutive negative COVID tests, the players were granted to use the gyms followed by interacting with other players after a ten-day of time span.

Ashwin is the bio-bubble along with his wife and both daughters. While all the players have received at least the first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, Ashwin has successfully got the second dose of Covaxin at end of the April when the IPL was still going on.
