Reliance clarifies “no plans to enter contract farming”

Reliance Industries Limited on January 4 said it has no plans to enter contract or corporate farming and is committed to empowering farmers. The company said it’s subsidiary; Reliance Retail does not purchase food grains directly from farmers and will insist the company’s suppliers to purchase farm produce on MSP. RIP added it never entered into long-term procurement contracts to gain unfair advantage over farmers. In November, some farmers had shut down a few Reliance Fresh stores in Punjab to stop the exploitation by corporates.
