
Reliance Jio launched Jio Bharat phones on Monday in an attempt to drive India ‘2G mukt’. The telecom company emphasised that there are still 250 million mobile subscribers who are stuck with 2G feature phones, which do not allow access to internet, in times when access to technology is a necessity. Jio Bharat phone’s main purpose would be to bridge this gap by allowing 4G enabled phones at Rs. 999.

- Torch, 0.3 MP Camera, FM Radio, expandable storage, and a headphone jack.
- 1.77 inch QVGA TFT display, removable battery of 1000 mAh.
- 0.3 megapixel camera on the back, 3.5mm headphone jack.
- Memory can be expanded using a SD card up to 128 GB.
- Phone supports UPI payments through JioPay.
- JioCinema gives access to movies, videos, and sports entertainment.
- JioSaavn access, services includes 8 crore+ songs in multiple languages.
Beta trial for first 1 million Jio Bharat phones will begin from July 7 and will be carried out in 6,500 tehsils across the country.
Jio has also launched Jio Bharat platform, which will enable other phone manufacturers to build Jio Bharat phones. Karbonn is the first brand after Reliance Retail to adopt this platform.
