Cory Monteith’s death stunned “Glee” fans ten years ago, and his loss is still felt today.
On July 13, 2013, an overdose victim was discovered dead in a hotel room in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Canadian actor, who played student athlete turned Glee club member Finn Hudson on the Fox series, was portrayed by Finn Hudson. Age-wise, he was 31.
The young star’s spectacular climb came to an astonishing conclusion. In a 2011 interview, Monteith discussed his determination to be upfront about his difficulties with heroin addiction and how he first struggled with it in his teens. “People have always made a lot of assumptions, you know,” he remarked.
“You know, you see this young, all-American quarterback lookalike on the programme, and you just automatically make assumptions, and I think people started really associating me with those preconceptions…and I get that. However, I also felt compelled to intervene at some point and share my story as well as the reality of my life with others.”
On the day of Monteith’s passing, Naya Rivera, another “Glee” co-star, was also discovered dead in Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. Rivera went missing for six days after she drowned while boating with her small son. She was 33 years old.
