RG KAR Case: Sandip Ghosh was involved in the trafficking of dead bodies to Bangladesh

The formal principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, was involved in a number of illicit activities, including dead body sales. On August 9, while working at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, the postgraduate trainee doctor ‘Abhaya’ was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed. All the doctor’s demands for strict punishment of the perpetrators and increased safety precautions for themselves have resulted in national strikes and protests in response to this incident.

The CBI is currently investigating Dr. Sandip Ghosh for his actions. During multiple long interrogation sessions, the agency had questioned him about why he had kept the victim’s parents waiting for three hours before giving them the body. As per India Today, Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent of the medical college informed Sandip Ghosh was involved in the trafficking of medical supplies and biomedical waste to Bangladesh. He stated how Sandeep was also involved with selling unclaimed dead bodies, biological waste to people who were under his extra protection. Afterwards, it would be shipped to the neighbouring nation.

India Today also reported, how Akhtar Ali stated about Sandip Ghosh’s purportedly illicit actions to the state vigilance committee. He claimed to be a member of the investigative team that found him guilty. But the day he sent in the probe report to the state health department, he was moved. Sandeep also demanded money from students in order to pass them in tests, and took 20 per cent commison while passing each tender.

As per sources, CBI is also planning for a polygraph test on Sandip Ghosh for his unclear answers. A PTI officer quoted, “There are allegations that Ghosh was involved in financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Our officers will soon issue summons to him for questioning.”
