Rhea Chakraborty gets court notice after CBI closure report in Sushant Singh Rajput death case

A Mumbai court has sought Rhea Chakraborty’s response after the CBI filed its closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, ruling out foul play in the actor’s death.

A Mumbai court has issued a notice to actor Rhea Chakraborty after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed its closure report in the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The court has now asked Chakraborty to respond before the next hearing, scheduled for August 12.

The CBI, which had taken over the investigation from the Bihar Police, submitted the closure report in March this year almost five years after the actor was found hanging at his apartment in
Mumbai’s Bandra area on June 14, 2020.

The agency concluded there was no evidence to support allegations that anyone had abetted Rajput’s suicide.
Chakraborty, who was in a relationship with Rajput at the time of his death, had earlier filed a complaint against the actor’s sisters and a doctor, accusing them of contributing to his death. The magistrate court in Bandra initially handled the matter before transferring it to the Esplanade court in South Mumbai, which deals with CBI cases.

The court’s current move is a procedural step to determine whether to accept the CBI’s closure report or order a fresh investigation. The agency had examined Rajput’s medical records, conducted forensic analysis, and recorded statements from Chakraborty and those close to the actor during the probe. Rajput’s father, K K Singh, had filed an FIR in Patna, alleging abetment and financial misappropriation by Chakraborty and her family allegations she has consistently denied.
