Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the actor Robert De Niro’s grandson, reportedly passed away last month after accidentally overdosing on drugs.
The 19-year-old died as a result of the toxic effects of fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine and cocaine, according to the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner, which confirmed this to Rolling Stone, People and CBS News on Tuesday.
A week after De Niro Rodriguez passed away, a 20-year-old woman was taken into custody on federal narcotics charges and accused of selling the drugs that caused his death, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.
According to a law enforcement official, Sofia Haley Marks was arrested on July 13 on three counts of narcotics distribution stemming from the sale of drugs to De Niro Rodriguez. The official was not allowed to speak publicly about the inquiry and talked to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.
The arrest was also reported by the New York Post and ABC News, citing law enforcement sources.
The next day, Marks showed up in Manhattan federal court and agreed to remain in jail until she requested bail at a later date.
