Robert Pattinson shares his unorthodox movie prep secrets while reflecting on his Mickey 17 role

Robert Pattinson’s unconventional approach to preparing for roles is both baffling and entertaining to those around him. At the Mickey 17 world premiere in London on February 13, he shared how his method of experimenting with various mannerisms and accents often leaves his family and friends scratching their heads. Pattinson confessed to wandering around and practicing different voices and personas, which sometimes includes mimicking unexpected accents like that of a taxi driver in a German accent. His loved ones frequently ask him why he’s speaking that way, but for Pattinson, it’s part of his immersive process, even if it’s not the most conventional one.

Despite his quirky preparation, Pattinson found shooting Mickey 17 to be a breeze, calling it “one of the nicest, easiest shoots” he’s ever had. The film, directed by Bong Joon Ho, explores the story of Mickey Barnes, a man who repeatedly dies and is cloned for his work. Pattinson’s character faces a complicated sci-fi situation, but he found the process easier compared to the film’s intricate production challenges, which he acknowledged were tough for the rest of the team.

As a longtime fan of Bong Joon Ho’s work, Pattinson was immediately drawn to the project after reading the script. He’s especially excited to work with Bong, calling him his hero. Mickey 17, which is based on the novel Mickey 7 by Edward Ashton, also stars Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. The film is set to release in theaters on March 7, and fans can look forward to Pattinson’s next unique performance.
