Rohit Sharma to join Team India on day 3 of the first BGT Test in Perth

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who recently became a father for the second time on November 15, is set to join the Indian cricket team on the third day of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test against Australia at the Opus Stadium in Perth. The series opener begins on November 22, while Rohit is expected to arrive on November 24, coinciding with the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah.

A significant boost for Team India

Rohit’s delayed arrival due to personal reasons has led to Jasprit Bumrah leading the team as a stand-in captain for the opening Test. While the first Test will largely see Bumrah take charge, Rohit’s presence from the third day onwards will be a morale booster for the squad, particularly ahead of the second Test in Adelaide.

Rohit’s return ensures his availability for the crucial pink-ball Test in Adelaide, for which the Indian team will play a two-day practice match against Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra.

Stand-in skipper Bumrah in charge

Bumrah, captaining the team in Rohit’s absence, mentioned staying in touch with the regular captain for strategic clarity. “I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here,” Bumrah shared during the pre-match press conference.

India’s unbeaten streak in BGT

India, who have remained unbeaten in the last four editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will aim to maintain their dominance as they begin the series in Perth. Rohit’s anticipated arrival during the ongoing Test will likely solidify India’s strategy for the remainder of the series.
