Russian defender Mario Fernandez was rushed to the hospital with a suspected spinal injury

Mario Fernandez, the defender of Russia was taken to hospital with a suspected spinal injury after he landed on his back during their Euro 2020 game with opponent Finland on Wednesday.

Russia who lost to Belgium 3-0 in their group opener of the tournament was able to save themselves from getting into a knockout competition vs Denmark on Monday, if they had lost this fixture against Finland. Aleksei Miranchuk’s goal seconds before the half time saved the Russians from getting into an extreme trouble.

Whereas Finland players wore some special t-shirts during their warm-up session ahead of the game vs Russia that read “Get Well Christian” to send him well-wishes for his recovery while he is in the hospital, Russian striker Mario Fernandez was stretched off to the hospital after he landed on his back in a fall at the 26th minute of the match. The player was suspected of having spinal injury. He was given a treatment on pitch before being transferred to the hospital for the examination if he had damaged upper part of his spine.

However, Russia later confirmed that Fernandez luckily did not suffer any spinal injury, and will be kept under the supervision of the doctors of Russian national team.
