Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav’s ongoing legal battle over a ₹9 crore debt has prompted an outpouring of support from the film industry. Days after the actor surrendered in connection with the long-pending cheque bounce case and was sent to Tihar Jail, his manager has disclosed that several prominent names from Bollywood have stepped in to offer assistance.
Speaking to Screen, Yadav’s manager Goldie said actors Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Sonu Sood have extended their support. Filmmakers David Dhawan and Ratan Jain, along with actor Varun Dhawan, have also reportedly reached out. According to him, the industry has rallied behind Yadav as his legal troubles intensified.
Sonu Sood had earlier publicly urged members of the film fraternity to support Yadav and has since offered him a role in an upcoming project along with a signing amount. Outside the industry, politician Tej Pratap Yadav, actor KRK and music producer Rao Inderjeet Singh have also pledged financial assistance.
The case dates back to 2010, when Yadav borrowed ₹5 crore to produce his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata. After the film failed commercially, repayment issues led to legal proceedings. In 2018, he and his wife were convicted under the Negotiable Instruments Act after multiple cheques bounced. Though the Delhi High Court suspended his sentence in 2024, it directed him to make genuine repayment efforts. His bail hearing is now scheduled for tomorrow, and his team remains hopeful of his release.
