Sanjay Dutt recalls prison days and shares how acting kept him going

Sanjay Dutt recently opened up on Kapil Sharma’s comedy show about his life in prison, where he turned to acting, carpentry, and even radio to cope with the difficult years.

Sanjay Dutt, who was sentenced to prison in connection with the 1993 case and served time in Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail from 2013 to 2016, recently shared how he managed to keep himself busy behind bars. Joining Suniel Shetty on Kapil Sharma’s comedy show, the actor revealed that acting became his lifeline during those years. He even formed a theatre group inside the jail, directing plays with murder convicts as his actors.

The veteran star recalled, “I earned wages there. Whether I made chairs or paper bags, I got paid. Then I even started a radio station, called Radio YCP. It was once played only inside the jail. We had topics to talk about, and we also did some comedy.” He added that prisoners wrote the scripts while he hosted the shows, making it an experience that gave him strength during confinement.

When asked by Archana Puran Singh about the furniture he built during carpentry sessions in prison, Dutt laughed as he spoke about learning new skills and being paid for his work. Reflecting on his personal life, the actor said, “I don’t regret anything that has happened in my life. My main regret is that my parents left me too soon. I really miss them.”

After his release in 2016, Sanjay returned to films and was last seen in Baaghi 4 alongside Tiger Shroff and Sonam Bajwa. Married to Maanayata since 2008, he lives in Dubai with their twins while continuing to travel to Mumbai for work.
