Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has come out in support of actor Vikrant Massey’s decision to retire from acting after 2025. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Gupta praised Massey for choosing to step back from the competitive entertainment industry to focus on his family.
Gupta compared the actor’s bold move to that of director Hansal Mehta, who in 2008 left Mumbai and the film industry to live in a small village. Mehta returned in 2012 with Shahid, which went on to become one of his best works.
Gupta emphasized the courage it takes to make such a decision, especially in an industry filled with competition and insecurity. “Do you realize the guts it takes to do that? To walk away from it all despite having a family to look after and the possibility of never working again? It takes guts, resilience, and an insane amount of belief in yourself,” Gupta wrote. He lauded Massey for following his own path and focusing on his responsibilities as a father, husband, and son, instead of succumbing to industry pressures.
Gupta’s message highlighted the personal strength required to step away from the limelight, urging the industry and fans to respect Massey’s decision rather than criticize it.
