Saurabh Sachdeva says Triptii Dimri’s criticism was due to film choices, not her talent

Actor and acting coach Saurabh Sachdeva praised his student Triptii Dimri, saying her recent criticism was not because she lost touch with her craft, but due to the film choices she made.

Actor and acting coach Saurabh Sachdeva has spoken in glowing terms about his student Triptii Dimri while offering a possible reason behind the criticism she faced in recent years.

Triptii, who began with small roles in Mom and Poster Boys, impressed audiences and critics alike with her performances in Laila Majnu, Bulbbul, and Qala. Her mainstream breakthrough came with Animal in 2023. However, the following year brought mixed results. While Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 was a huge hit and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video performed well, many felt none of the films fully showcased her abilities.

In 2025, she made a strong comeback with Dhadak 2, earning fresh acclaim for her acting skills. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Saurabh said, “She never lost touch with the performer in her. It was just a matter of choices.”

Reflecting on his 20-year career as an acting coach, he shared, “It’s much more powerful when a student gets to express themselves. I lacked the courage to express myself when I began. I overcame that through theatre, but I kept wondering where my own expression was. Now, when I see my students like Triptii finding their unique way of doing it, it moves me.”

Saurabh, who taught at Barry John’s acting school from 2005 to 2016 before starting his own, has trained close to a thousand actors, including Raghav Juyal and Richa Chadha. Yet, he insists the credit belongs to them. “The stakes were so high for them that they had to succeed. I just helped them along the way,” he said.
