Scream VI: when is the sequel returning? Here’s what we know1

Who’s up for a new Scream film? Yes, Scream, also known as Scream (2022) or Scream 5, was released in January 2022, but because it was well received by both reviewers and audiences (see What to Watch’s review of Scream), it should come as no surprise that a sequel was swiftly announced and given high priority. As a consequence, Scream VI will be released to theatres a little over a year after the most recent entry in the venerable horror series.

Wes Craven directed the original Scream, which debuted in 1996 and starred Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, among others. Before the release of this most recent Scream, which its meta screenplay refers to as a “requel” (reboot/sequel), there were three previous sequels. Is Scream 6 now considered a requel sequel?

Scream 6 cast

With Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Wednesday star Jenna Ortega all slated to reprise their roles, the Scream (2022) survivors will fight Ghostface once again.

Sam, who was revealed to be the biological daughter of the original Scream murderer Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), was portrayed by Barrera, while Tara, who isn’t connected to Billy, was played by Ortega. As Mindy and Chad, Brown and Gooding’s identical siblings, are Randy Meeks’ niece and nephew, they have ties to the original films as well (Jamie Kennedy).

It will be a jolt from the past when Hayden Panettiere, who played Kirby Reed in Scream 4, joins the new cast of characters.

Neve Campbell won’t be in Scream VI, but Courtney Cox is expected to return for the subsequent installment in terms of other classic Scream characters.

Dermot Mulroney from My Best Friend’s Wedding, Tony Revolori from The Grand Budapest Hotel, Samara Weaving from Ready or Not, Jack Champion from Avatar: The Way of Water, Henry Czerny from Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Liana Liberato from A Million Little Things, Devyn Nekoda from Ginny & Georgia, and Josh Segarra from Ginny & Georgia are among the additional new cast members (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law)

Scream VI Plot

The four Scream survivors are followed in Scream VI as they once more battle Ghostface. The official summary is as follows:
