Selena Gomez may be over the moon about her engagement to Benny Blanco, but not everyone was immediately on board—especially her Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short.
During her recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Rare Beauty founder revealed that while Benny didn’t ask her father or co-stars for permission before proposing, it was Martin who took it the hardest. “I have a feeling that Marty wasn’t very happy about that,” Gomez joked, adding that he gave them a hard time with “jokes here and there.”
Given that the trio has worked together for over four years, it’s no surprise that Martin took the news a little personally. Meanwhile, Steve Martin took a more formal approach—so formal, in fact, that he sent his congratulations via email to Selena’s assistant instead of reaching out directly.
Despite the playful reactions, all three reunited at the 2025 Golden Globes, sitting together at the same table. Gomez, who was a double nominee that night, even shared an adorable selfie of their reunion, proving that no engagement news could break their tight-knit bond.
