Lionel Messi is allegedly bringing a friend to Major League Soccer with him. As per reports, Messi will be joined at Inter Miami by Sergio Busquets, a legendary FC Barcelona player.
After nearly 2 decades with the Catalans, Busquets is likely to sign a contract extension until 2025, according to CBS Sports. The midfielder, who has been on a family vacation in Kenya, revealed in May that he will quit the club when his contract ended at the end of the season.
Between 2008 to 2021, the 34-year-old played with Messi at Barcelona until the Argentine transferred to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. According to Diario AS, Inter Miami is close to reaching a deal with Busquets that would reunite him with Messi in Florida.
There may soon be a significant Barcelona contingent in Major League Soccer (MLS), with both Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez being strongly linked with a transfer to Inter Miami.
Busquets, who plays as a defensive midfielder, ended his Spotify Camp Nou career by winning his 7th La Liga title with Barcelona, his 1st as club captain. During his career at Barcelona, Busquets amassed an astounding 722 appearances, winning 9 La Liga titles, 3 UEFA Champions Leagues and 7 Copa del Reys, among other major awards.
