Serum Institute announced the launch of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (most affordable PCV) which will provide protection against 10 variants of pneumococcus bacteria that causes pneumonia, meningitis, ear, and blood infections in children.
Pheumosil is priced at $3 per dose and over $10 per dose for private market. 3 doses will be required to complete the course in India. Adar Poonawalla reported that the company has the capacity to produce 100 million doses of PCV. Serum has already begun the shipping process of the vaccine to UNICEF.
