Sex and The City’s Kristin Davis Recalls ‘Totally Blowing’ Melrose Place Audition

Kristin Davis, best known for her iconic role as Charlotte York in Sex and The City and its spin-off And Just Like That, is stepping into a new chapter of her career. She will host her own iHeartRadio podcast titled Are You a Charlotte?, where she’ll narrate stories and share personal anecdotes with fans.

Before her breakthrough role as Charlotte, Davis honed her craft at Rutgers University and appeared in small roles on shows like ER and daytime soaps. However, it was her role as Brooke Armstrong in Aaron Spelling’s Melrose Place in the mid-90s that marked her first major break. Reflecting on her time on the show, Davis shared a story for the first time, revealing that by the time she auditioned for Melrose Place, she was already preparing a “plan B” of opening her own yoga studio. She also recalled a memorable final audition round where she and two other actors, one of whom was Hilary Swank, competed for the role. Davis got the part, though she humorously recalled Swank’s comment as she left the audition: “Oh, I totally blew it.”

Davis played the conniving character of Brooke Armstrong in Melrose Place for its 1995-1996 seasons. She noted that the creators of the show weren’t quite sure how to develop her character, which left her in a constant state of uncertainty regarding her storyline. “I would get my script, and I would just be like, ‘Oh, Jesus, what am I gonna do this week?’” she shared.

Despite the uncertainty around her character, Davis praised her Melrose Place co-star Heather Locklear, calling her incredibly nice and admiring how she gracefully handled the fame that came with the role.

Fans can stream Sex and The City on Amazon Prime Video and look forward to Davis’s new podcast, where she will continue to connect with her audience and share more stories from her career.
