Shah Rukh Khan Pens Emotional Tribute as Andre Russell Retires From IPL; Welcomes Him as KKR’s New Power Coach

Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan has penned an emotional tribute for Andre Russell after the West Indies all-rounder officially announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League as a player. Russell’s announcement, shared through a video on Sunday, comes just two weeks before the 2026 IPL mini-auction and marks the end of an era for KKR fans.

Responding to Russell’s video, Shah Rukh expressed deep gratitude and admiration for the cricketer who has been one of the franchise’s most explosive and beloved players. “Thank you for the wonderful memories, Andre. Our Knight in shining armour!!! Your contribution to KKR is one for the books…” he wrote, acknowledging Russell’s unmatched impact in purple and gold.

The Bollywood star also celebrated the beginning of Russell’s next chapter, as the all-rounder transitions into the role of power coach for KKR. “Here’s to another chapter in your fantastic journey as a sportsman… the power coach passing down the wisdom, the muscle and of course the power to our boys,” SRK wrote, adding that seeing Russell in any jersey other than KKR’s would “look weird.” He signed off lovingly: “Muscle Russell for life! Love u… on behalf of the team and everyone who loves the sport!!”

Russell revealed that he had extensive conversations with CEO Venky Mysore and Shah Rukh before accepting the new role, shortly after being released by KKR due to a dip in recent performances. Despite this, he remains one of the most iconic players in IPL history.

Shah Rukh, who has co-owned KKR since 2008 along with Jay Mehta, made it clear that Russell will continue to remain an integral part of the Knight Riders family even beyond his playing days.
